Green County Intermediate School is a new 55,000 s.f. facility for 400 students, programmed for 25 classrooms, with support areas (gym, cafeteria/kitchen, and media), as well as site development for 100 car parking, bus/car loading, and play area. The site is confined by city-block boundaries, and has a steep cross-slope, influencing the facility design significantly. HVAC geothermal, located under the parking area. The project budget was both tight and fixed at $8.5 million, but controlled, efficient design, combined with a good bid climate brought the base bid cost in at $7.5 million–well under budget. Geothermal systems brought the total contract to $7.75 million, or approximately $145/sf. The facility is fully fitted with digital board and projector technology.
